Sustainability is an essential part of our lives today, and many eyes focus on palm oil growers and processors to transform into a sustainable production system. Olenex is one of the largest buyers of palm oil from the upcoming market in Latin America. Local plantations do not have a major impact on deforestation. But there is still a lot of room to improve their practices. The projects that can be initiated with the MARIPOSA programme, aim to educate and protect nature, the people and our environment. It means farming with great respect for the environment. It requires trading respectfully with each other. Eventually, sustainable practices and actions leads to a healthier future for our children.
Our objective for the MARIPOSA programme is to raise funds to finance sustainability projects that allow the fast-growing palm oil industry of Latin America to transform into a sustainable agri-business environment.
Some may say it is a crowd-funding project. We would like to call it ‘Friends of sustainable palm oil from Latin America’ because we want to make a difference and change the industry and make it sustainable
We aim to make the programme available to all our customers. Every contribution helps us to do more work. Customers who plan to support MARIPOSA can already contribute as low as a 1€ per mT of product they purchase. That is all.
A sustainable palm oil supply chain is our #SharedResponsibility. Aiming for a fully sustainable supply chain builds a healthy future for our children. Our commitment to growing the MARIPOSA programme is our priority, including the partnerships we establish. MARIPOSA partners can also help by adding the programme badge and logo to their website, on their product and any other type of marketing communication. Let's improve awareness and create real impact together.
As a MARIPOSA partner, you will also want to see what is happening with your contribution. So would we. Local organisations will report regularly and we will publish about all the developments every six months.
We have uploaded our first progress update recently and you can find it here:

The next Mariposa project will be a follow up on the previous success of Wilmar Smallholders Support Honduras (WISSH).
